LO3 Treatment

Task:
Treatment – a pitch to a TV channel
(SELL YOUR IDEA _ quick synopsis of documentary idea and the appeal for the  target audience; time slot; channel; budget)

Our documentary is based on different types of stereotypes which we named ‘Stereotypes The good and the bad’.

What’s different about our documentary to the other documentaries is that they haven’t don’t one based on stereotypes and this makes our documentary more interesting to the audience.  The reason to why this would be something the audience don’t want to miss is because it’s something new and something interesting for the views. This is like a message to the audience the ones that think good of everyone and don’t judge by first impression will be looking forward to seeing what people who do disrespect others because of their looks or beliefs. This will also show these that think bad of certain people how they shouldn’t discriminate and how they should respect others life style no matter how bazar it can be.

The target audience that stood out to us and would benefit a lot from it is young adults and adults from ages 15 – 40. The reason why we think it would be best for these age groups is because most of the people within these age groups have loads to say and still need to understand the basics of respecting others and not discriminating them because of how they wish to live their life style. However this documentary wouldn’t be much of an effect to the children younger than the age of 15 as they wouldn’t be as sure or be able to understand everything going on.

The lines of appeal for our documentary is that it gives audience the re-assurance that if they are discriminating, judging and disrespecting others because of how they wish to live their life styles. This would be bad parenting for their children or anyone who is younger than 15 to look up to them as role models. The documentary is on the educational line so it is relevant to the younger adults to learn something new.

The documentary will start with an realist narrative as the documentary will focus on the stereotyping, it will then have the people we interviewed tell us a few other their experiences as well as facts on stereotype. The aim of the documentary is that it grabs the audience’s attention as the documentary is educational as well as being a message to everyone. The documentary would appear on channels like ‘Channel 5, ITV, Channel 4 and BBC channels’.

LO3 genre conventions for our documentary

Task:
Genre conventions for your production
(list the genre conventions of your production – montage the images for the exposition; balance etc; are you going to use reconstructions, archive footage or back up your bias with statistics/ experts? INTENDED AIM – what’s your CONTRACT WITH THE VIEWER - what’s the BIG question your documentary is going to explore?)

Lighting-  The lighting that we will be using for our documentary will be normal light that will come from the building, as we believe that we wont need any sort of lighting and this will just be main light within the building as we feel that we dont need any source of fancy lighting within our documentary.

Permission for use of location- Most of the filming that we will doing willl be within out school sidney stringer academy and therefore we wont need any sort permission as we are allowed to film within our school and we have permission. Also we will be doing some filming in My house and therefore we wont need permission to record there as it is fine with me to record within my house.

Material structured into an argument –Seeing as our documentary is about stereotypes, which is a controversial topic, we’ve decided to make the documentary a participatory and argumen as many people will  their opinions and therefore we would see alot of people who will be in argument with other people as  everyone will have their own opinion about this matter and this will all techinally  be structured into an argument as everyone will be saying their own opinion about this topic.

Music -We will se using for our documentary this will be done throughout the doucmentary where appropiate however one of the main places where it will be will be the first minute of a our documentary as we will need to  have music that wil hook people onto this documenatry so that   they want to watch more and this will persuade them to carrying on watching as the music will be tense.

Voiceover-It is very important for a documentary to have voice overs as this is what hooks people onto the show and therefore we will be using  a voice over for our documenatry this will most likely be a male voice as most documentaries use males voices as they are very deep and it is  said that more people will take more attention to a male voice rather than a female voice and therefore in our documentary we want some one who will hook the viewers onto carrying on and watching the documentary.

Experts-One of the most important factors within a documentary is exper knowledge, this is important and therefore this is why we have to use experts  within our documntary. the expert that we will using within our documentary is going to be people that will ahve knowledge about this  matter, we will also have expert knowledge from a psychologist as we want to know ho this topic can have an effect of people minds and everyday life.

Actuality Footage-another important factor within a documentary is actuality fottage as this means that all the fottage that will be displayed in our documentary will have to be actualy and they must not be made up and therefore this is why we are using actualioty foorage in our documentary as this will make our documentary more  sucessful and for a documentary it is important all the footage is actual and not made up as when people watch documentaries they expect actuality footage.

Reconstructions-We still also include  reconstruction in our documentary, this will be off people that have prevously been stereo types, this is important for us to do in our documentary as we want to make people aware of the way that people can stero type other , sometimes without even knowing and how this can effect the  person that is being stero typed.

Interview-Within our documentary we will be interviewing many   many people as we can to get peoples views and opinions on this topic.  Therefore we will be interviewing many people in order get peoples opinions and views about this topic.

Statistics-We will use statistics to in showing how many people will get stereo types to show the emphasis on how bad it can be for people to stereo type other people.

Texts and titles-We will be using text and titles to get importangt information about this topic across and this is important for us to use and this can be used to display interviewers names aswell.

Montage- we will be using a montage of images in our documentary, as we can to emphasise the type of sterao types that will exist in our documentary.

LO3 Research into documentary subject area

Task:
Any RESEARCH you have done into the subject area
(Web links and personal evaluation of source – what will you use to support you documentary?)

When we first started to decide what we want to base our documentary on I was thinking of doing something along the lines of girls wearing the ‘hijab’ (head covering). The reason why I decided to do a documentary based on this is because I myself am a girl who wears it and there have never really been cleared out to people why it is important in the religion Islam. Most people have respected the religious wear but however there are still very narrow-minded people who haven’t yet still accepted it and think very bad of it. This is one of the main reasons why I would like to do this so it helps those people to not judge and respect others the way they choose to be.  While I watched other documentaries like "Make me a Muslim" and "Mum I'm a Muslim" they both gave me a good insight of the stereotypes that are targeted on new Muslim girls as well as born Muslim girls.

The reason to why I picked these programmes is because it relates to girls who are in the religious clothing and also stereotyping is involved in situations like this all the time.

The reason to why I picked this documentary "Make me a Muslim" because it shows exactly what I am looking for to show everyone. There are British born girls converting to Islam, who were brought up being Christians but felt they are meant to be Muslim. It shows how live is hard for them as they choose to set their life to a new start with their family disagreeing with their choice and also even planning on leaving behind any relation with their daughters who have decided to move on to another faith.

"Mum I'm a Muslim" is also a similar documentary like the above. It shows the same life she is living as the girls in the above video and it is explaining how its made them better people inside and outside by following their hearts and choosing a new faith that they feel is the right on for them. They explain how they have become much stronger and happy in this religion and feel peace after praying and following the rules of which most Muslims follow in Islam.
